Philadelphia Photographer: One More Story to Tell

Matt has been working on a personal album for about thirteen years now. Writing all of his own lyrics and music, he's a true musician. In the past couple years, he's been recording this album little  by little. Making sure he recorded each song organically. As I stood in his beautiful Wyndmoor home, talking over hibiscus tea, he explained that this is a personal project. Although the music will be fore sale through iTunes and other avenues, he described it as not being "marketable." "You'll hear," he said. After checking out the rest of his fabulous historic home and meeting his sweet little Milli, he sat down at his piano. I wanted to take these images and have them be organic and emotional just like the music he described. As he played, I didn't want him to stop. The music is so full of heart and emotion. It's incredibly moving to listen to. It took effort to keep tears from streaming down my face. So, I'm not sure that I agree with the whole not being marketable part ;). Throughout our session, I kept thinking how wonderful it was to be in Matt's presence. He's so present; being in his presence is warming and fulfilling. Our session was so much more than just photography, though. It was a wonderful visit with a talented, humble, gracious man. It was such a pleasure to get to know him even more (I interned in his building years ago!) and hear some of his personal work. Matt, thank you so much for welcoming us into your home. It was such a wonderful visit. I'm so excited for to have fulfilled such a wonderful personal goal. I can't wait to hear the rest of your album! The images we captured during his session are some of my favorite. Shooting in the shadows, capturing "moodiness" and capturing the creativity was just awesome. Enjoy!
