The Marks + 1: At Home, Newtown, PA
I met Lucia in grad school. I wasn't sure what to think of her at first... she has 10 ft of energy squeezed into a 5 ft body. Turns out, she's one of the most amazing people I've ever met. She's insightful, caring, funny, entertaining, and the list goes on. She ended up being a close friend long after we graduated and I'm so glad. She and her husband have always known that if they wanted to be parents, they have to look into adoption. In the years I have known her, I saw her and her husband, Kevin, begin this long journey. I won't share the details, as they're personal, but as you can imagine, it hasn't been easy. It's been a roller coaster and there have been many prayers. I'm not sure if they knew, but the rest of us knew how this story would end... or begin.
The day has finally come. They are parents. It has been a long and emotional journey that led them to Lucas Ryan. He is truly a gift from God and is, without a doubt, their son.
Hannah and I made our hike down to Newtown to meet sweet Lucas and take a few pictures. Hannah was delightful until she became hungry. Once fed, she was delightful for about 15 minutes until she became tired. If anything, I gave them a sneak peek into their life 4 months from now!
Here are some of my favorite family shots.
Aren't they just beaming! If you've read the "about me" section of my website, you already know that I'm not into a lot of posing. Yes, I'll set you up and guide you, and let you know if you're hair or hand is in the wrong place; otherwise, I let you do your thing and snap away. I also always have different shots in mind, but I always ask if there's something that you want. Not because I have no idea what to do with you, but if the idea comes from you, you're more comfortable and the true you comes out. In these family shots, we were at the park. Naturally, I'm looking for the pathways and grassy areas to set up. Kevin suggested shots on the slide and swings. Never would I have thought to do newborn family pictures on a slide or swings, but they turned out awesome. Oh, and the last shot? That's Lucy's mom. Is she not just the proudest grandmother you've ever seen??
Certainly, I had to get a few separate shots of Mom and Dad with their bouncing baby boy.
Kev, you're beaming!! And your wife? Look at her?!
Okay, I'm sure you're ready for a few close ups of handsome Mr. Lucas!
Kevin and Lucia, I can hardly put in to words how happy I am for the two of you. You are so deserving and I'm elated to see your Happy Beginning. You have so much to look forward to. xo
