Lehigh Valley Lifestyle Newborn Photographer: Welcome, Baby Sarah!
Sarah Kate. Oh how special you are. I'm not quite sure how to write about this family; about this incredible mother. I feel like there are no words worthy of truly articulating this profound story. Their lives. Their journey.
Postpartum Depression. It's this really ugly thing. Those who have experienced it all experience it differently. Many of whom would never share with others that they have these feelings. Not Melissa.
When I met Melissa a couple years ago, she was very forthcoming in conversation that she suffered from PPD. Bad. Really bad. Really, really bad. I don't feel it's necessary to share the details of her story, but to share these pictures... they are living proof that it does get better. Melissa was open about her feelings from the beginning. She knew they weren't normal, she knew she needed help. She never allowed society's shame to keep her from getting through this. Today, she shares an incredible bond and relationship with her oldest daughter.
Today, she shares an incredible bond and relationship with her youngest daughter who is less than 2 weeks old. If you could understand the magnitude of this sentence then you understand postpartum depression.
I watched Melissa in awe. During our session she would just get lost into Sarah's eyes. Her soul. Her being. It was amazing. Her husband Paul; beyond supportive, caring and loving. Their daughter Hannah; beaming with pride. As if each of them were a little puzzle piece put together, they created this picture of love. I see this love in all of my sessions, but this love. Ohmygosh.
Melissa and I were alone upstairs as she nursed Sarah. In that moment, Melissa shared details of her story. Details that left us both sitting on the bed with our faces in our hands sobbing. Just sobbing. Her story crushed me, yet gave me so much joy all at the same time. The story is beyond incredible. It is love in all of its many forms.
Melissa, you hold a strength I've never seen. Your girls are blessed beyond measure to have you as their mother. Paul, your strength is humble and the foundation. You have both created beauty. I'm so, so incredibly happy for all four of you (these words sound so small compared to how truly happy I am).
"She will move mountains."
